When was the last time you pulled out the Three 6 Mafia cassette for Chapter 2: World Domination and listened to the track “Prophet Posse.” Oh wait… You don’t know “Prophet Posse” from the Triple-Six? Do you know Three 6? Do you know about that Memphis sound? Do you know about DJ Paul, Juicy J, and Gangsta Boo? What about Project Pat? Alright… Just seeing what I’m working with here. Hyperlinked up for all of y’all to catch up if you were sleeping. Well here’s “Prophet Posse” for you. In my opinion, it’s on some murked out Daft Punk type down south trill vibes that I’m trying to catch on a Saturday afternoon.
It’s Saturday afternoon and I have 2 hours tops to catch a wave. So here we go… Prophet Posse vibes. Gotta cruise on over to my main man Project Pat off of his brilliant Mista Don’t Play album that dropped back in 2001. The way that 2nd verse kicks off at 1:52? Wow… Beat change and Pat just comes with that flow talkin bout lucha libre and pullin the trigga and I’m all in. You?
Now I’m ready to bounce a little bit and fall into the groove of the playlist knowing we got another 3 or 4 tracks until it’s time to close shop. Koopsta Knicca with “Stash Pot” and the flow that creeps in and out of the beat on some rob a mothafucka vibes mixed with some cool smoked out shit.
Alright… We gonna kick back and post up right now. Let’s just bounce with some Crucial Conflict on that “Hay” tip. This song remains slept on which is just crazy to me. It’s so damn dope. How are you not bouncing to this track?
It’s only right to either go with some Do or Die or some Bone right now. I’m going with Bone Thugs but I’m going back with it. I’m going to “Sons of Assassins” which is hard AF on every level.
You know I can’t roll out a playlist, mixtape, mix cd, or mix without heading out west. But I’m not going to Compton or the LBC. I’m going straight to Sac Town to check in with Mr. Doc from Black Market Records. Check the flows. This is what I’m bumpin in my car when I’m by lonesome.
Alright… final song… Gotta end up on some Hollow Tip because I’m about to loc up on ya bustas and I’m not takin no shortz. We’re keeping it in Sacramento which was honestly the most slept on area for talent in Cali. It was the pure 90’s west coast vibe but it was just a bit harder and darker. Give this a spin, let me know what you think.
And here’s the Spotify playlist for those of you who want to save or download for the whip.
