Lately I’ve been on the hunt for some good rap music I’ve never heard before. This often means I’m going deep down hip hop rabbit holes on Spotify and YouTube listening to clips of songs and then quickly onto the next. It’s not a fair way to listen to music but this is how we absorb music now. Sure there are the purists out there who claim to only listen to albums but music is in a TikTok state of attention span right now. Kind of sad right? But here’s the way I look at it…. When I actually find a song I’m really vibing too I will bump that song over and over again. And I will share it in my IG stories in hopes that it resonates with you too. I’ve found some dope tracks lately. And one of the freshest tracks I’ve heard is from an emcee named Seafood Sam. I heard his song “Ramsey” off of the Du-Rag Dreams album and was hooked. Dope song… Dope emcee… I needed to listen to more of his music.
With a name like Seafood Sam you could really be from anywhere. But Seafood Sam is from Long Beach, CA. It doesn’t surprise at all because Long Beach has pumped out so many dope artists. Listen to this list…. Snoop, Nate Dogg, Warren G, Daz, Frank Ocean, Vince Staples, Crooked I, Twinz, Battlecat, Zack De La Rocha, Sublime, Terrace Martin, and likely many more I’m missing… Seafood Sam is yet another talented artist out of the LBC. Northside Long Beach to be exact.
I couldn’t find a ton out about him in my Google searches but did find this dope interview from Freshjive that’s worth checking out. I also found this interview below which gives a good background on this West Coast emcee.
Are some of y’all already up on Seafood Sam and I’m just late to the game? Just might be so I gotta catch up on his catalog and see if he has his instrumentals available on the DSP’s. That beat on “Ramsey” is just too damn smooth. It’s the perfect sun is going down by the beach type of West Coast wavey music. Right up my lane. It’s a damn shame when I look at the YouTube view count on a track like this below. People are sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeping.
