Had the chance to rip some packs with Murs recently and you know I had to bring some fire with me. Murs is a collector of lots of things like us all but he is one of the few rappers who have actually documented being a collector on record. And on video too which can be seen with his video for his track with DJ Fresh, “BT$ 2” off of the album, Love & Rockets, Vol. 2. Peep the lyrics on this and check the visuals. If you’re a collector you can’t watch this and not feel a certain way.
Murs and I have always been big wrestling fans going back to the glory days of WWE along with the rise of ECW in the late 90's so you know I had to bring an AEW blaster to rip. Hearing that his kids are into AEW and he would be opening packs with them at home was gold. Will Murs pull a Dr. Britt Baker out of his blaster?
Here we also rip a pack of the Bo Jackson cards that Alchemist and Boldy James released with their Bo Jackson album in 2021. While ALC is one of the nicest on the beats and Boldy is one of the hardest workers in the rap game, just the fact that they made cards for their product launch strategy was amazing. Shout out to Al for perfectly blending rap, sports cards, and sports into a collectable that I couldn't wait to rip. Boldy was in a really bad car accident recently so prayers out to him and his fam. Hope for a speedy recovery and for Boldy to lace the mic soon with more heat.
Finally, I gift Murs with a Kendrick rookie card from when he threw out the first pitch at Dodgers' stadium back in 2015. I recently had a few Kendrick rookies graded so it was only right to lace Murs with one of the gem mints I received.
It's funny how opening some back of baseball cards, sports cards, or just oddball cards in general can evoke so much emotion from grown ups. These cards truly take us back to our childhood and seeing how we're bringing the next wave of youngsters into the hobby is straight up gold.
